Protecting our Environment |
| Utilizing environmentally friendly building materials to reduce energy usage minimizes energy consumption. more on building green... |
The Heat Island Effect: |
| Urban areas, with a high density of dark roofs, are approximately 8 to 12 degrees warmer than rural areas. Additionally, urban areas suffering from heat islands tend to have a higher incidence of pollution and ozone levels. Because solar energy is reflected rather than absorbed, the surrounding air temperature is lowered slightly. Reflective roof systems or “cool roofs” reflect the sun's energy, and reduce the negative effects of heat islands. back to top |
Energy Efficient: |
|
| United Building Products, Inc. distributes a wide variety of Energy Star approved products. In 1999 Energy Star recognized reflective roofing systems as an effective way to reduce energy consumption caused by building cooling. Cool roofs reflect solar radiation, rather than absorbing it. Highly reflective, white roofing systems can reflect up to 90% of the sun's radiant heat. Consequently, interior temperatures are reduced and less energy is necessary to cool buildings, especially during peak energy usage hours. Reflective roofing systems reduce peak energy usage by approximately 10 to 15 percent. As the demand for energy continues to increase, utilizing the latest technology in reflective roofing products is an effective way to lower air conditioning loads, annual operating costs and ultimately, overall energy usage. Installing a 100% recyclable, white-reflective roofing system is an environmentally responsible way to minimize peak energy usage. back to top |
